Moleben on Sunday August 17th at St. John The Forerunner

Fr. Zachariah will be serving the Moleben for the Unborn this coming Sunday at St. John the Forerunner after coffee hour, which would be about 12:30 pm.  The address is 1621 Howard St., Indianapolis.

Let us keep the light of prayer and intercession burning for the sanctity of life.  I appreciate Fr. David Wey’s words, “may God receive our efforts and bring much fruit from them.”  On behalf of OCLife Indianapolis, a big thank you to our Orthodox clergy and faithful who participate in this worthy cause.  Hope to see you there!

A Call for Unity from Holy Mount Athos

The news article below gave me a boost today.  Nothing could be more encouraging than seeing Archimandrite Ephraim, Abbot of the Vatopedi Monastery on Holy Mount Athos, calling upon Orthodox Christians to unite in the struggle against abortion.  May the clergy and the faithful heed his call and may the Lord God Almighty guide and help us in this work.

Orthodox Christians should more actively strive for a ban on abortions, believes Abbot of the Vatopedi Monastery on Holy Mount Athos, Archimandrite Ephraim, reports Interfax-Religion.

“It is unacceptable that such terrible crimes as abortions are committed in Orthodox countries, moreover, in such large quantities! This phenomenon must make us think seriously about it; I would say, we must be shocked and distressed, we need to raise the alarm,” reads the address of the abbot to the participants of the “For Life” international pro-life festival that is due to take place in Moscow on August 11-13.

In Archimandrite Ephraim’s view, cited by the festival organizers, the Orthodox Church could work more effectively with this issue.

“We should have cooperated with the state, but it was the state itself that legalized abortions, so it is on the opposing side. All the clergy and people must be engaged in this activity; a strong campaign against abortions is needed which will proceed from the true knowledge of a human being and love for him or her,” he stressed.

“The Persistent Widow”

Moleben 7-25-14A

July 22, 2014 Moleben at Joy of All Who Sorrow, Indianapolis

As an fyi, OCLife Indianapolis strives to schedule the Moleben for the Unborn as much as possible on the 22nd of every month because the legalization of abortion in this country took effect on the 22nd of January, 1973.  And if that is not feasible, we do it every third Sunday of the month.

I thank God for the continuity of the monthly moleben for the unborn in Indianapolis and we are approaching our second year since October 2012.  I have deep appreciation for Fr. Stevan, Fr. Dcn. Michael and the core group of OCLife Indianapolis for pressing on.  Sometimes the number that attend can be discouraging, however, we should always have a positive outlook – quality is better than quantity.

We feel like the persistent widow pressing the Lord to do a miracle for the unwanted unborn..that their right to life at conception be protected by the laws of this land, but most of all, that the hearts of those in authority as leaders  of the people will be illumined and moved to do what is right in the eyes of God for the good of all.

May God bring to fruition the efforts of those who uphold the sanctity of life.

“Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart, saying: “There was in a certain city a judge who did not fear God nor regard man. Now there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, ‘Get justice for me from my adversary.’ And he would not for a while; but afterward he said within himself, ‘Though I do not fear God nor regard man, yet because this widow troubles me I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.’”

Then the Lord said, “Hear what the unjust judge said. And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?”  (Luke 18:1-8 is the Gospel read for the Moleben Service for the Unborn)

Supreme Court Hobby Lobby Decision a Win for Religious Freedom

Glory to God for all things!

This is by far the most encouraging news in a long time.  Thanks to these Christian men and women who fought for their belief in the sanctity of  life.  May there be more who will stand in the gap.

June 30, 2014

WASHINGTON – Today, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of Hobby Lobby and Conestoga Wood Specialties’ case regarding the Health and Human Services (HHS) Mandate. The mandate refers to the requirement in Obamacare that forces private companies to provide birth control and abortion-causing drugs in employee insurance plans. Hobby Lobby and Conestoga Wood Specialties’ owners argued that the HHS Mandate violated their religious freedom.“Today’s outcome is a victory for religious freedom,” stated Mike Fichter, President and CEO of Indiana Right to Life. “No company should be forced to provide drugs that end a human life. Because of today’s ruling, now no closely held company will have to provide those drugs under Obamacare. This is a big win for the unborn and for religious freedom.”Indiana Right to Life’s mission is to protect the right to life, especially of unborn children, through positive education, compassionate advocacy and promotion of healthy alternatives to abortion.

Let us keep our hearts burning in prayer for the love of others and especially of the innocent unborn child.

“And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.”  (Matthew 11:12)

Moleben on June 22nd!

Christ is in our midst!

The moleben for the unborn this month is going to be this coming Sunday, the 22nd, and we are having it at Joy of All Who Sorrow on 16th and Delaware Sts. after coffee hour at 12:40 pm.

As we journey through the Apostles Fast, let us remember and pray for the protection of the innocent unborn who are in danger and their mothers and fathers who need the Light of Christ.  Let us persevere in prayer individually and corporately that the right to life from conception of the innocent unborn would be protected by the laws of this land.

See you then!  God bless!

Christ is Risen!  Truly He is Risen!

Glory to God for all things!

The icon of the Mother of God, Our Lady of Czestochowa, also known as the “Black Madonna” was at the Joy of All Who Sorrow Orthodox Church in Indianapolis on April 25-26, 2014. The purpose of the icon pilgrimage was to promote the sanctity of life, marriage and the family.

It was taken to Vladivostok on the Pacific coast of Russia, from country to country to the Atlantic coast of Portugal, and over the Atlantic Ocean to North America in August 2013 and has been to 26 states.  From Indianapolis, it is headed to the Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa in Merrillville, In from April 26 to 27.

The icon was brought for prayer vigil to two abortion clinics located on 16th St and Georgetown Rd, Indianapolis . Seven lives have been saved since the icon has been brought to abortion mills for prayer vigils, according to Fr. Peter West, a Catholic priest and guardian of the icon.

Joy of All Who Sorrow received the icon in a procession from Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral.  An Akathist to the Mother of God was served upon reception of the icon, followed by vespers in the evening and divine liturgy in the morning.  Archpriest Fr. Stevan Bauman, Fr. David Wey and Fr. Dragan Petrovic served the Akathist.  Here is the video coverage by Michael Drippe, member of the Joy of All Who Sorrow Orthodox Church.
