January 15th ~ Bible Study at Joy of All Who Sorrow

Blessed New Year to everyone!

We are off to a good start for 2014 by the grace of God.  Subdeacon Randy Hay of Joy of All Who Sorrow Indianapolis will be doing a bible study on a a very sensitive topic that is very  much spoken about especially on this month of January.  January 22nd, 2014 marks the 41st anniversary of the legalization of abortion (Roe vs Wade).

The bible study is going to be held at the parlor room of the Joy of All Who Sorrow Orthodox Church on 16th and Delaware Sts. on Wednesday, January 15th at 7 pm.  Come and hear what God’s Word and the holy fathers have to say about this controversial subject.

December 22nd Moleben

Christ is born, glorify Him!

We have finally completed the last moleben for the year 2013 and are gearing up for the new year.    We thank everyone who have participated and prayed and we are hoping that attendance and involvement will keep growing.  Most importantly, we will keep the good fight of the faith praying and hoping that the laws of our nation will protect the life of the unborn child at conception in the nearest future.

Check our blog weekly for announcements about activities on the upcoming 41st anniversary of Roe vs Wade next month.

May the Lord bless us all with divine health, strength, wisdom, safety, peace and joy as we meet the challenges of the coming year, through the prayers of the Theotokos and His holy servant and OCLife Indianapolis’ patron saint, St. John the Wonderworker of Shanghai and San Francisco.

St. John Maximovitch the Wonderworker, Patron Saint of OCLife Indianapolis

As we have been developing our OCLife ministry we have been inspired to ask for the blessing to have St. John Maximovitch the Wonderworker, Archbishop of Shanghai and San Francisco, as our patron and intercessor.  He was a great lover of children and especially orphans.  He was responsible for rescuing many unwanted and abandoned children while he was in Shanghai, China, developing a large orphanage in the process.

We are very happy to announce that the icon and a part of the relic of St John that was given to the Joy of All Who Sorrow parish in Indianapolis, with the blessing of  its senior priest, Fr. Stevan Bauman, are going to be brought in to the moleben at Sts. Constantine and Elena this Sunday, December 22nd at 1 pm.  We will be singing the akathist hymn to St. John, seeking his guidance and intercession for our endeavors for the innocent unborn children.  Fr. David Wey, senior priest of Sts. Constantine and Elena will be leading the akathist service.

We hope and pray that this ministry will have increasing support from the different parishes in Indianapolis as we continue to hold the moleben for the unborn every month.

O Holy St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco, pray to God for us!

Troparion to St John in Tone 6

Glorious apostle to an age of coldness and unbelief,/ invested with the grace-filled power of the saints of old,/ divinely illumined seer of heavenly mysteries,/ feeder of orphans, hope of the hopeless,/ thou didst enkindle on earth the fire of love for Christ/ upon the dark eve of the day of judgement.// Pray now that this sacred flame/ may also rise from our hearts, O holy hierarch John.

Moleben on Sunday, December 22nd

The moleben for the Unborn will be held again at Sts. Constantine and Elena on Sunday, December 22nd at 1 pm after coffee hour.  This is the last moleben for this year.  Thanks be to God for His grace and mercy.

Nov. 22nd OCLife Indianapolis Moleben held at Sts. Constantine & Elena for the first time!

What a wonderful time of prayer we all had last night at Sts. Constantine & Elena Orthodox Church on 16th St., Indianapolis!  It was a first for the venue and a first also to have two priests in attendance!  Our hope is that all Orthodox Churches of the Presbyters Council of Northern Indiana will alternate in hosting the moleben for the unborn children on a regular basis until the right to life from conception of the unborn is upheld and protected legally.

Following are links to a short video (in two parts) of the service.  Please forgive this amateur for the poor quality and mistakes.  Scroll further down for photos or click on the Photo Gallery tab to view the pictures.  Hope to see you all next month as we complete this year’s molebens!  May God bless us all!

‘I felt like I died’: New TV ads combat ‘happy’ abortion stories with the truth

SOURCE: LifeSiteNews.com
By Ben Johnson

A new round of television commercials seeks to counter a growing narrative that abortion leaves women feeling uplifted, empowered, and relieved. The pro-abortion movement’s “1-in-3” campaign is asking women to share happy memories of aborting their children, scheduling abortion celebration events at 100 locations in 32 states.

But the data shows post-abortive women are actually disproportionately likely to suffer from depression, substance abuse, and other forms of trauma. To tell their stories, VirtueMedia has released six ads featuring the testimonies of women whose experiences were anything but positive.

The series, entitled “Been There,” features five women whose grief is evident in every frame.

“I felt like I died,” said Patti, who had an abortion at age 16. “I really felt like a part of me died that day.”

“I had experienced a rape at a very young age, and I compared it very much to rape – very traumatic,” she said. Decades later, she still has tears in her eyes. The grief “compounds because of other choices you make as a result of the pain and the suffering that you’re going through,” she said.

Kristi was happy to learn of her pregnancy, but under her family’s pressure, she went through with her appointment. “Planned Parenthood did not give me any options at all,” she said. “I paid the money, and I became a number.”

“I wake up every day knowing that I killed my son,” she said, “knowing that’s a mistake I have to live with every day.”

Vanessa also felt her “pro-choice” decision was no choice at all.“I felt very pressured to have an abortion by everyone around me,” she said. “After the abortion, I felt no sense of relief.”

She has since had seven children, a ponderous number by modern standards, but she still misses her lost child. “There’s a hole in my family, still.”

Abortion instills “a sadness that lingers with you,” she said. “You can forgive yourself, but you can never forget.”

In each video, the women stand near a bulletin board with their words, often misty-eyed.

Donna did not weep. She sobbed openly over her abortion at age 19, saying it led her to a “prison” of emotional pain.

“In my community, they didn’t preach having a child was a good thing,” the young African-American woman said. “I’m mad at myself. I’m mad at the people that told me the most important thing was an education,” she said.

The tears stream as she says, “I’m trying to have a child now and I can’t. I can’t. It’s all I can think about all day.”

“Don’t do what I did,” she pleads.

The video messages, funded by a grant from Our Sunday Visitor Foundation, are the counterpoint to the 1-in-3 movement.

The attempt to portray abortion as a positive good began months ago, as Jessica Grose in Slateasked for women to tell “blithe and unapologetic,” happy abortion stories. A few writers have said they“venerate” abortion “wholeheartedly,” referring to terminatig their child as “euphoric.” But most continue to couch their support for abortion around “the hard cases.”

Pro-lifers say both the mother and the unborn child are forgotten by the Culture of Death.

VirtueMedia Founder and President Tom Peterson said, “It has always been a priority for VirtueMedia to shed light in the darkness, by effectively responding to anti-life issues in our culture.”

The non-profit, founded in 1998, has been endorsed by the Vatican, Priests for Life, Focus on the Family, and Silent No More, among other family affirming organizations.

THE BEGINNING OF THE END OF ABORTION

Day 36

  Oct. 31, 2013
Dear Photini,
There are only a handful of days left in the fall 40 Days for Life campaign.  There will be a closing event Sunday afternoon at 3 pm – 4pm.  This will be a time to pray and sing together in public witness for an end to abortion.

To remember those children whose lives have been taken by abortion, and to celebrate God’s love and mercy, please try to bring a baby shower gift.  These donations will be collected and distributed through the Great Lakes Gabriel Project.  Any baby needs will be greatly appreciated.

Our honored guest at this event with be Bob Rust and we’ll have music with the Gospel of Life band and the Padilla family.  Light refreshments for a cool fall Sunday will also be provided.

I was at the prayer vigil earlier this week.  I had gone because we did not have anyone signed up for a couple of hours, and I thought I could cover the vigil if no one was there.  I had wanted to get in an overdue mowing and it was a cloudy but rain-free day, so I wasn’t exactly happy to be going to pray in front of Planned Parenthood.  When I got there, sure enough, we had five or six participants.  “Great!” I thought as I got out of the car.  Maybe I could go home and mow the lawn after all.

I stopped to talk with the sidewalk counselor, Lisa Hughes, who said she had been there for a while and was thinking of leaving soon.  She said she had heard that we had seen several “saves” recently.  The abortionist was at work that day.  I signed in, picked up a “Pregnant? Need Help? Call 1-877-734-2444” sign, and after greeting the other participants, began walking along the curb and praying.

I watched a PT Cruiser slowly pass and turn into the Planned Parenthood driveway.  It drove around to the back of the building, and I could see that a man and a woman were in the car.  Some of the participants left, but new people arrived, so I started to think of leaving.  I noticed the PT Cruiser come out from behind the building and stop at the driveway.  Lisa talked briefly with the couple, and they drove away.  A few minutes later I was back near the driveway, and Lisa waved me to come over to where she was standing.  She told me that the couple in the car had parked behind the building and had decided to call the 1st Choice number.  They decided not to go into Planned Parenthood.  We passed the word to the others at the prayer vigil.  I decided I might just stay a little longer.

When I left after two hours, the sidewalk counselor was still at her post.  We also had several prayer vigil participants, and the rest of the afternoon was covered.

By the time I got home, I knew there was not enough time to mow the yard before picking up my grandson at school.  I looked at the yard.  It was beautiful.

May God bless the children, the sidewalk counselors, and all of us.

Thank you.

Jim Recasner
